I am a Professor of Mathematics at the Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad. Below I give a brief introduction to my career.
I was born in Thiruvarur (it is the birth place of the carnatic music giants Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshithar and Shyama Sastrigal - In Tamil language they are referred to as "Sangeetha Mummoorthigal"). I did my schooling (upto 6th Std in a school close to my home) from V. S. Boys' High School and after that did my undergraduate degree in Mathematics from A.V.V.M. Sri Pushpam College, Poondi, Thanjavur Dist (1978-81 batch). Our family moved to Chennai in the year 1981 and I did my post-graduation from the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Mylapore during the period 1981-83. After my post-graduation, I did my M. Phil degree in Analysis under Professor P. N. Natarajan (Vivekananda College) and then joined the Ph.D programme in Number Theory under the supervision of Professor T.C. Vasudevan at RKM Vivekananda College in 1984. After completing my Ph.D degree in 1989, I joined the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai as a post-doctoral fellow in October 1990. After the PDF term at IMSc, I joined the Mehta Research Institute (MRI) as an NBHM post-doctoral fellow in November 1992. I joined as a faculty at MRI in April 1993. The name of our Institute is changed to Harish-Chandra Research Institute in the year 2000. Currently I am a Professor of Mathematics at HRI. I was the Dean (Administration) between 2005 to 2009 and Dean (Academic) between 2015 to March 2018. At present, I am also the Treasurer of the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.
