NBHM Exam-2026 application portal now open (deadline Dec 21, 2025)
The admissions process includes a national-based written test followed by another written test by HRI:
- National-Based Written Test:
- Harish-Chandra Research Institute uses the national level NBHM Scholarship Written Test as a preliminary screening test for the selection. To apply for the HRI Mathematics M.Sc. programme, candidates must score above a cut-off point determined by HRI. The NBHM Exam normally takes place during the month of January. - Written test by HRI:
- Shortlisting based on NBHM results: A list of candidates who clear the NBHM test will be posted on the HRI website.
- Application to HRI: Shortlisted candidates may apply to the MSc programme. If their applications satisfy the eligibility criteria, they will be invited to appear for the written test.
Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must hold one of the following from a recognized university/institute: B.Sc. (3-year/6-semester), B.Tech./B.E. (4-year/8-semester), or B.S. (4-year/8-semester).
Minimum marks: At least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent grade.
Foreign degrees: Eligibility for candidates with equivalent foreign degrees will be determined according to guidelines of the appropriate statutory authority of India.
Written test at HRI covers: Group theory, Linear algebra, Real analysis, Riemann integration, Point-set topology, Metric spaces. The test includes both objective (MCQ) and descriptive questions.
